Shelling in the Caribbean
by Wayne Williams
My name is Wayne Williams and, before I came to Guam, I lived in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. I collected shells in Cuba, but I couldn't get a lot, because most of the time, I just walked on the beach and found little shells. At some beaches you can find lots of shells. There was one beach called Hicacle Beach, the water is knee deep and there are lots of grass plants for shells to feed on. When you want to find Hawk-Wing Conchs, you walk and try to put your feet on them. When you step on them, you must step lightly or you will break the shell.
In Haiti, I also found the same shell. I found a Tulip Shell, named Fasciolaria tulipa Linnaeus, 1758 in Cuba. On Guam, you turn over rocks and go reef walking, but in Cuba you just beach comb, snorkel, or dive.
