Preparations for the upcoming Shell fair were discussed at the October 3 meeting. The members voted on three suggested mottos for the Shell Club logo. "Preserve Our Reef" was chosen.

Setting up for the Shell Fair and how to do displays took up a good share of the October 17 meeting. Silk screening with the new Guam Shell Club logo was done for members who brought tee shirts. Richard Salisbury showed slides of worldwide miters. Following the meeting, refreshments were served in honor of Wayne Goudeau, vice-president of the Shell Club, who was leaving Guam after four years as an active Shell Club member.

At the November 7 meeting president Richard Salisbury thanked everyone for their participation in the Shell Fair. It was the biggest ever with over 50 displays. Club member, Mike Medelait, gave an interesting talk on his recent chance to dive in the Red Sea. Then, Jim Johnson, another club member, gave a very informative talk with slides on underwater photography.

On November 21, Phil Signor from John Hopkins University talked about the research he was doing with terebra and how they burrow. Members were reminded that the good negative tides were beginning on December 3.

The election of officers was the main part of the December 5 meeting. The officers for 1980 are:
President - Paul Merrill
Vice-President - Jim Bell
Secretary - Kay Reves
Treasurer - Janet Fishman
Historian/Librarian - Georgia Trieber
Board of Director Members - Ken Rhein, Alex Roth, Mike Reves, and Harry Kruger

The Shell of the Quarter competition was held at the December 19 meeting. The Shell Club Christmas outing and shell exchange was scheduled for noon on December 23 at Reserve Craft Beach.

The meetings in July, August, and September concentrated on choosing an official shell for the Guam Shell Club, and on preparations for the Shell Fair to be held in October.

On July 3rd, Richard Salisbury presented slides of his recent trip to the Philippines as well as some slides of bivalves. The Guam Shell Club and the Andersen Reef Roamers Club held a joint meeting on July 17th at the Naval Communications Station. The purpose of the meeting was to meet the people from Tom Rice's shell tour, who had stopped on Guam for a few days. A night outing was planned for the Piti Bomb Holes on July 18th, at 7:30 p.m.

At the August 7th meeting, Cypraea mappa was chosen as the Guam Shell Club's official shell. Designs for a club logo were requested. Sid Sneider gave a short presentation on hand dredging. The club meetings were moved to the Communications Center at NCS for the next three meetings, due to the closing of the USO on Tuesday nights. After the August 14th meeting, there was a craft time where various items were assembled for sale at the Shell Fair. The shirtbox competition for Augusts was mixed shells.

The September 4th meeting featured slides of turrids, presented by Paul Merril. On September 18th, it was decided to move the meetings back to the USO and to change the meeting night to Wednesday. The Shell of the Quarter competition was held as well as a shirtbox competition on turrids.

The meetings of the Guam Shell Club are held at 7:30pm on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at the USO Club in Piti. The meetings usually include a slide presentation or program on the first Tuesday and a short five minute presentation on the second Tuesday. A Shirtbox competition, featuring one family or group of shells from Guam is also held the second meeting of the month. In addition, a business meeting, Shell of the Night Competition, a shell raffle and the Boo-Hoo drawings are held at each meeting.

The April 3rd meeting of the Guam Shell Club was highlighted by Dr. Gary Vermeij's talk on Shells and their predators. It was very interesting as well as informative. There was a lively question and answer period after the talk.

At the April 17th meeting, a shirtbox competition was held on Cowries. It was divided into two categories; Cowries 2 inches and over and Cowries 2 inches and under. There was a buy/sell/trade session following the meeting.

There were many Shell of the Night entries on May 1, 1979, including some very nice finds. George Lehmberg showed slides of the 1978 Guam Shell Fair and a nice slide program on the Strombus found on Guam, as well as some that are not.

On May 15th, 1979, the first edition of the "Guam Shell News" was distributed. The dates for the 1979 Guam Shell Fair were announced. This year's Shell Fair will be held October 24th through the 28th at the USO Club in Piti. The shirtbox competition features Strombus. Bob Meyers gave a short program on cleaning shells accompanied by a handout.

At the June 5th meeting, past-president George Lehmberg was presented with a plaque in appreciation of his work for the Shell Club. Refreshments were shared, following the meeting, as a farewell to George and Jane, who were leaving island shortly. There were many entries for the Shell of the Night contest. Paul Merril showed slides of the Olives found on Guam.

The June 19th meeting featured a shirtbox competition. Paul Merril presented slides of tented cones.

The meetings of the Guam Shell Club are held at 7:30 pm on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the USO Club in Piti. The meetings usually include a slide presentation or program on the first Tuesday of each month and a short 5 minute presentation on the second Tuesday. A Shirtbox competetion featuring one Family or Group of shells from Guam is also held the second meeting of the month. In addition, a business meeting, the Shell of the Night competition, a shell raffle and the Boo-Hoo drawings are held at each meeting.

At the January 2nd meeting the new officers were introduced and the goals of the club for 1979 were discussed. Rich Salisbury gave a slide presentation covering a broad spectrum of shells found on Guam.

On January 16th, the meeting was visited by members of the Andersen Reef Roamers Shell Club who issued an invitation to their outing at Rizal Beach on January 27th. The shirtbox competition was held on Cones of Guam.

Plans for an outing to Cocos Island were discussed at the February 6th meeting. It was also suggested that the club adopt an official shell and club logo. Barry Smith from the University of Guam gave a talk on an experiment he was setting up on the feeding habits and preferences of the Textile Cone. He was baraged with questions and requested to return later to tell the club the results of his research.

The February 20th business meeting was abbreviated in order to have a social time in honor of Don and Kay Hiatt, longtime members of the Shell Club who were retiring off-island. The shirtbox competition was Terebra of Guam with a prize for the longest Terebra.

The meeting on March 6th featured a slide presentation by Rich Salisbury on Miters of Guam. Ideas for the shell club logo and patch may be turned into anyone on the Board of Directors. The winners will be chosen in June.

The final meeting of the First Quarter was held on March 20th. The shirtbox competition was on Miters of Guam with a special category for the largest Miter. The shell of the Quarter competition was also held including the winners of previous shell of the Night competitions as well as any other shells found during the Past quarter. An outing to Dogleg Reef on March 24th was announced to being at 10:00 a.m.
